We are located about 1 hour and 45 minutes south of Portland, Oregon. On your way to enjoying your time at the Oregon beach, this drive will take you through some of the premium farm land in Oregon's Willamette Valley and through the heart of the Oregon wine industry. There are several routes to reach us from the Portland metropolitan area. If you chose to take Highway 99 to Highway 18, you might want to stop at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon... home of the world famous "Spruce Goose".

Stay on that road for about 5 miles and get in the left lane when the signs give you an option to go into McMinnville (you don’t want to go through McMinnville). You’ll soon see a sign that says “Valley Jct: 21 miles”; that‘s your next turn, in 21 miles!). When you get to “Business Loop”/Hwy 18, stay on the road that “says 18 Bypass). You’ll go over four one-way bridges (a perfectly BEAUTIFUL drive that takes about 20 minutes) and will eventually come to a “T” (So.Hwy 101). Turn left at that stop sign, towards “Neskowin/Newport”. You’ll quickly cross Little Nestucca River and enter a passing lane (about two miles from that “T”at Hwy 101). Watch for a small green road sign that says “Winema Road Next Right”. Turn right on Winema Road and go straight (onto a gravel road called “Otzen Way”). That road eventually curves to the right and automatically becomes “Horizon View”. Go a short distance and turn left on “EbbTide”, then left on “Sundown”. Your rental package will indicate the house number and door key code.

Follow that about 3 miles after that point and you'll see a road sign/turn off that says "Hebo & Tillamook...West 22/18" Turn right at that intersection (if you see the Spirit Mtn Casino you've gone too far). *Note: “MapQuest” type sites may not like “Neskowin” as the town designation. We’re right on the border, but much closer to Neskowin. You may need to put “Cloverdale, OR 97112” as the end destination town within your search (same for GPS TOO). In addition, your GPS may attempt to take you through Lincoln City. The traffic is horrible that way, plus you'll miss the beautiful drive along the river, so stick to Hwy 22 towards Hebo/Tillamook (and ultimately towards Pacific City).
BEACH ACCESS: You’ll see a (faded) red sign indicating where the path starts (out our driveway, across the street and to the right a few steps). When you approach the water, please use the secure rope/"handrail" to make your way to the sand. Some people don’t need the help, but it is provided to ensure extra stability for your walk. If you have several things to carry down or have someone in your group who may find it difficult to reach the beach from the access across our driveway, you may want to drive the other direction on Sundown View (south out the driveway). Go up the hill and you’ll see 3 crosses and Wi-ne-ma Camp/beach just below you. Follow the gravel road until you hit pavement (Sunset) and turn right. Go past the camp entrance; you’ll see the public access/beach.
During the winter/rainy season the descent to the beach can be VERY slick. CHECK THE TIDE CHART before you leave. Quick reference: If you can SEE the sand from our deck, you‘re good to go. When you get to the beach, turn right; you’ll find a great cave. Keep walking north and you'll soon see the mouth of the Nestucca River (and often times a large group of huge seals). | |
